How to calculate the amount of stainless steel pall ring?

2024-12-20

To calculate the amount of stainless steel pall rings used in a packed tower, it is necessary to consider the volume of the packed tower and the bulk density of the pall rings.
Firstly, it is necessary to know the inner diameter (D) and packing layer height (H) of the packed tower, and calculate the volume of the packing layer using the cylinder volume formula V=π x (D/2) 2 x H.
Then, considering the bulk density (ρ) of the pall ring. The bulk density refers to the mass of pall rings per unit volume, but it can be used to calculate the number of pall rings per unit volume. The bulk density of different specifications of pall rings varies, and this value is usually provided by the manufacturer of pall rings.

Assuming the bulk density of the pall ring is ρ (pieces/cubic meter), the amount of pall ring used (N) can be calculated using a formula.
N = V x ρ
For example, there is a packed tower with an inner diameter of 2 meters, a packing layer height of 3 meters, and a packing density of 700kgs per cubic meter. Firstly, calculate the volume of the packing layer as below:
V=π x (2/2) 2 x 3= 3π (m3)
Then calculate the amount of pall ring used:
N=3π x 700=3 x 3.14 x 700=6594 (pcs)
In practical applications, factors such as the filling method of the pall ring and whether there are special distribution requirements need to be considered. Sometimes it may be necessary to increase a certain surplus, usually by 5% -10%, to cope with losses during installation or later supplementation.
