Towe packing PVDF pall ring

PVDF is called polyvinylindene fluoride, which is the high - performance polymer material. The shape is semi-transparent or white particles. It has good chemical corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, and oxidation resistance. The melting point is 172℃, the hot deformation temperature is 112-145℃, and the long-term use temperature is -40 to 150℃.
In the fields of chemical, environmental protection, and pharmaceutical industries, packing towers are widely used as key gas-liquid contact equipment in processes such as gas purification, absorption, distillation, and deodorization. The performance of the packing directly affects the efficiency and service life of the tower equipment. Traditional tower packings’ materials are mostly metal or common plastics, but they often showed poor corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance when facing harsh chemical environments or high-temperature processes. In recent years, PVDF material has been widely used as a packing material in packing towers.
Some years ago, we supplied to a sulfuric acid production plant, mainly for the purification and absorption layers of sulfuric acid towers. Previously, they used metal pall rings, but they need replace metal ring almost every year , which reduces production efficiency seriously. Since purchasing our PVDF 76mm Pall Ring, the absorption rate of acid gas has significantly increased, the maintenance interval of the equipment has been extended to 5 years, and the operating cost has been reduced by about 20%, which saved the costs of replacing materials.

Although the initial cost of PVDF Pall Ring is higher than that of PP Pall Ring, its usage time and high performance have better economic benefits. And our PVDF pall ring can be recyclable and more environmentally friendly, which is also meet with the concept of industrial green development for foreign countries.
So how much loading amount needs to be used for packing towers?
Usually, the quantity of PVDF Pall Ring can be calculated based on the height or volume of the packing layer.
· Packing layer height: The packing layer height of sulfuric acid tower is generally between 1-3m, depending on process requirements and tower design. To meet the absorption efficiency, we recommend to take at least 2m.
· Packing volume: The total packing volume can be calculated based on the cross-sectional area of the tower and the height of the packing layer. Assuming the tower diameter is D and the packing height is H, the total volume of packings is:
 
 
 
Regarding replace or loading tower packings, below is the points:
· Cleaning before replace: PVDF pall rings should be cleaned before replace, thus can remove the oil and dust of surface, and prevent affecting mass transfer efficiency.
· Replace uniform: To ensure the uniformity of gas-liquid contact, the packing should be evenly distributed within the tower to prevent local density unevenness.
